You might have better luck looking for an older used Savage and take the engine from it. I just located a 1986 Savage with 11,000 miles and electrical problems for $500 for my father-in-law. It's been sitting in a garage for the last two years. My father-in-law helped me re-wire Linda's '96 last year so he knows how to fix this one. The seller isn't a 'wrenchhead' and is tired of paying someone to work on it so decided to get rid of it.
Check around for used '86, '87, or '88 models.
